| This is a near complete listing and bios of characters that would be considered important and/or crucial to the overall story. These people appear numerous times, have numerous lines, or are important enough to the main characters' development to warrent secondary status. They are not listed in any real order, just kind of as they pop outta my head and onto the screen. | |||||||||||||||||
| Jestura Mara Raptor: Mara is the twin sister of Li's husband James. She and James grew up with Kain in Arcainia (their fathers were good friends). As children Mara and Kain shared a semi-romantic relationship that may or may not have developed into something more meaningful as they grew older had Kain not been sent off to China. Mara is a powerful sorceress and is currently the Jestura to the Ladys of the Elements, acting as the Faery Queens' personal assistant and main ambassador to the human world. She is kept very busy by her duties and rarely sees her family and friends. Because of this she and Kain were forced to call off the romantic relationship they had started when Kain returned home as they saw each other maybe one hour a month if they were lucky. At the beginning of the story Mara hasn't even met Nancy or Li face-to-face because she is kept away from home so much. However, she does enjoy her work very much and is very dedicated to the Ladys of the Elements. She was worked hard to get where she is. She is a sweet and caring person, but she does have a temper and has a habit of easily taking offense. She can be very catty, especially with other women, and if she doesn't like someone she enjoys getting under their skin with snippy comments. James Raptor: James is the fiance' of Hua Li, Mara' twin brother, and Kain's best friend. He is a Knight of Auset and a member of the honored Society of the Seven Scorpions. Like many Auset Knights, he fought in the Dwarf & Goblin War on the side of the dwarves. Because of his combat skill and high degree in the Auset Knight order, he was promoted several times, eventually being appointed commanding general directly under the dwarf king. During the final battle of the war, James was leading the dwarven army against the goblin army. Unbeknownst to him, the mercenary Samhus Garrison (his second in command at the time) had made a deal with the goblin king to turn traitor. During the height of battle, Garrison shot James in the back with an arrow, dropping him. James fought valiently for several more moments before falling on the battlefield. His body was never recovered and he has been missing for three years. Li has never given up hope that he is still alive and believes that one day they will find each other. Even if it is found that he has died, Li has vowed that no other man can ever take his place in her heart Second General Raphael Boniva: Second General to Grand General Kain Viccon. He is of Kuberican heritage, although he doesn't know if he was born there or not. In fact, his entire childhood and teen years are a complete mystery to him and he has no recollection of his past. Few actually know this and most just assume that he's the quiet, reserved type (although this is actually true as well). Several years before the events of Book I, Raphael fell into league with a small gang of criminals not realizing what their true business actually was. When he found out the true he was furious and confronted his bosses, threatening to go to the authorities. The gang beat him pretty severely and threw a bitter orange powder into his face before leaving him in a ditch near the City of Hurst. Raphael doesn't believe that they intended to kill him as they had left him with some money and his identification papers and he always felt that they genuinely liked him. He believes that the orange powder is the cause of his amnesia, that perhaps the gang had used it to save them the trouble of killing him while still making sure that he would not be a threat to their organization. He vaguely remembers his time with the gang, but cannot remember any names or faces and his past is a complete blank. Very shortly after this, Raphael found himself in the City of Hurst. He had already gone through much of his money and was intent on drinking himself to death that day. Fortunately, he ran out of money before he could pay his bar tab and when the enraged bartender began cursing him and pushing him around ready to beat the hell out of him, a young knight stepped forward. He identified himself as the Captain of Police Kain Viccon (Kain had been on loan to the city from the Arcainian Army since they had lost their previous captain). Kain calmed the irate bartender down by offering to pay the tab and then escourted Raphael out of the bar. However, instead of taking him to prison, Kain took Raphael to get a meal and listened to his story. Taking pity on Raphael that he had no one and no where to go and would probably die in a week, Kain offered him a chance to join the Arcainian Army. Desperate for any way out of his predicament, Raphael agreed. So, with a letter of recommendation from Kain, Rapahel showed up on Tolac Island and attended boot camp. Kain visited the island several times, taking an interest on the bright and clever young man he had met in Hurst. Once Raphael graduated out of boot camp, Kain took him under his wing and helped him moved up to the Arcainian Knighthood. The two men remained good friends from many years and when Kain made Grand General, it was his who would be Second General. It was a hard decision between Raphael and another good friend Sir Kristofer Delmas. Kain ultimately chose Raphael because he was more even-temptered and patient, which came in very handy at the castle dealing with senadors, governers, and other castle officials. Raphael is a quiet and shy person, but he can lead men like a true general when push comes to shove. He is extremely smart and seems to be a good engineer, although he isn't sure how to better mold this gift. He is an excellent warrior and well skilled in Arcainian martial arts.
